Can I use LED’s on the same transformers and the same wire run? Yes LEDs are run on direct current but Vista has an internal driver that converts this at the fixture. So LED’s can be integrated into a halogen system with ease.
Will LED’s melt snow? Vista’s LED’s will melt through snow. We did an experiment last year and it melted through a foot of snow. But they do not put out as much heat as a halogen lamp heat so if we have 3ft of snow it will take some time to melt.
What is the Volt Range for optimal use? Most of Vista’s LED’s have a 6-15 volt range or between 10.5-15 volt range so volt drop issues are becoming a thing of the past which means much less wire and simple installation.
What are the Energy Savings for using LED’s? LED’s are 75% more energy efficient than incandescent, halogen, or 24volt lamps. For example a Vista bullet up light GR-3003-M-FL consumes 4.5 watts compared to a 20watt BAB Halogen with the same light output.
What is the Cost difference? Typically LED’s cost twice per fixture as a typical halogen fixture. But your transformer which typically is your largest cost item in the system is smaller than normal because the LED’s consume 75% less energy. Also much less wire and much easier installs.
Why would I even think about LED compared to halogen? The LED tidal wave is upon us. People are starting to take advantage of the 75% savings on their energy bill. The advantages are smaller transformers, no more lamp replacement, 17 years of life, and much easier to install.
Do LED’s put out enough light? Yes. They put out just about as much as MR-16’s. Vista has engineered LED fixtures to resemble the same lumen/light output as halogen fixtures.
I’ve seen LED’s and they are blue in color. Vista now has LED’s in warm white that is the exact color temperature as a MR-16 Halogen lamp.
Do I have to throw away the fixture when they go out? Vista has drivers/emitters that are replaceable. So you do not need to throw away the fixture.
How many years will they run? Vista’s LED’s are projected to burn for 50,000 hours which equates to more than 17 years.
